Floor Cleanliness Linked to Family's Health

     A recent survey by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification found 81% of U.S. homeowners feel that their family's health is directly related to the cleanliness of their floors.  33% of the people surveyed said that someone in their household suffers from indoor allergies.  Also, 50% of those households agree that the type of flooring can contribute to allergies.

     More than 77% of homeowners vacuum their floors at least once per week.  Those with children vacuum more than once per week.  49% of the homeowners deep clean their carpet at least every six months with 39% hiring a professional service.

ADDITIONAL STATISTICS

  • Carpet is the most common floor covering in the United States
  • 52% of the people surveyed indicated the advantage of carpet is that it is comfortable and 41% said the drawback is that it shows soil.
  • 49% of homeowners replaced their carpet because of wear and 38% because of soiling and staining.
  • 64% of homeowners have rugs in their house.
  • 49% of U.S. homeowners aren't aware if the products they are using are environmentally safe.
  • Almost 60% are likely to purchase "green" cleaning products.
  • 50% of U.S. homeowners say it's important to hire a professional that is certified by a professional organization.
