Out of state buyers from years before were now the sellers and had been missing their friends and old town and decided to move back to the state they came from. They had listed with another firm, the listing was priced well, quite new to the market and just had outdoor photos.
But I had shared the prior photos with a buyer coming into town because it had been our listing. The new buyers were anxious to see this home and thought it would fit their needs. I called the listing agent and set up an appointment.
It was bad. It was so so bad. Have you ever walked into a room and felt like you've stepping into an entire bottle of pepto bismal? Their greatroom was PINK. PINK WALLS, PINK CEILING, PINK CARPET. Nope, not making it up. There was the sea foam green bedroom and bath, the bright yellow kitchen, blue bedroom and bath and then of course the lime green bedroom. All of them had the ceiling painted to match, the bedrooms had carpet to match and they painted all the cabinets in the kitchen and baths to match the walls.
It was horrible. No warning from the listing agent and my buyers literally couldn't get out of the house fast enough. I know you might think it's "just paint" and a buyer could paint. I know you might think it's lovely and fit your furnishings and tastes as a seller, BUT it's not what you want to use a color scheme when you are about to put your house on the market.
I think color is great. I appreciate color and warmth, but it has it's place and it's ONLY on the walls. Don't make the mistake those sellers did. Fast forward 4 more years and they still have the same paint scheme and STILL have their house on the market.
