Warning! Some Open House Attendees are Looking for More than a House

It's springtime and open house signs are in bloom throughout neighborhoods on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and throughout the South Bay.

Unfortunately, some of the weekend warrior home shoppers are really robbers looking for an easy target.  Here's the reminder email from my corporate office:

Please be careful

A young well dressed couple driving a Silver BMW showed up at an open house in the Hollywood Rivera.  One of them kept the agent busy, while the other one robbed the house.  Please be careful and remind your clients to lock up their valuables.

I'll be more careful this weekend.  Happy Easter and happy selling!

Well, it is a good scam - pretty scummy though. It's also pretty hard to explain to the sellers for the Realtor. What will they think of next?

Todd & Danielle - Looks can be deceiving--just because someone is well dressed and driving an expensive car doesn't mean they can be trusted.  It's another great argument for having two agents work an open house.

Norma, it's great you are sharing information like this.  I have heard of other situations concerning medications.

The Washington Post did a thing on "pharming", or swiping stuff fromthe medicine cabinet.  Yikes!

Patricia - A few years ago a seller called me after I held an open house -- meds were missing.  Worse yet, it was a broker open house.  Not good for our image!
