Somewhere back in the 70's or early 80's this kid was in love with Jan and Dean and the Beach Boys. That van looks just like Woodstock, doesn't it? The hair is like the Beatles!
The car was bought for gas efficiency even though gas was cheap.....cheap.....compared to now!
The picture was taken in Searcy AR at the corner of Sowell and McRae Streets.
Yes the Volkswagen van or bus or microbus is telling. The car is a about 1978 Plymoth Horizon Hatchback. My neighbor in CA had a green one he called "Scud". Good memories pic, Barbara.
Don, that is what I liked most about the picture....the old van. The kid in the picture loved Jan and Dean. His mom reported that she had just given him the t-shirt and he adored it! The memories are so sweet!

Ah, yes! I well remember those days. Tell me wasn't that just yesterday!?! Where did the years go?
I wasnt old enough but I remember watching my uncle in those days and wishing I could dress like his girlfriend and drive his purple Superbee.

I certainly have fond memories of those days and that photo could be me. And yes gas was 19 cents and 22 cents a gallon! Never see that again.
Well, Johnny, you sure brought back some old memories in that comment. I was absolutely out of my mind when I heard about the accident while you were on your way to California. Big sister, Valerie, had to wheel across the divided highway and head back to see what had happened to you two. I'm sure she was a nervous wreck wondering what she would find. You three were very brave and adventurous. And it was my fault because I encouraged it.
