eTrivia number 101

I believe some of these are going to start running together and I may from time to time repeat something I've already wrote about. If I do I hope you'll understand it wasn't planned that way.

I want this to be information one just usually doesn’t hear.  If you have I would like to know if you haven’t all the better you’ve learned something today.  With that being said here is the information for you to consider today.

The largest mammalian carnivore that ever lived on land was the giant short-faced bear. Twice the size of the biggest modern bear, it was 6' 5" tall at the shoulder when standing on all fours. Scientists believe it had very long legs and chased antelope on the North American prairies. It died around 12,000 years ago.  The last one for today is: All dogs can be traced back 40 million years ago to a weasel-like animal called the Miacis which dwelled in trees and dens. The Miacis later evolved into the Tomarctus, a direct forbear of the genus Canis, which includes the wolf and jackal as well as the dog

Now go out and tell the world of your new found knowledge.  Smile it will make people wonder what you’ve been up to.  Join us tomorrow for another journey into the wonderful world of Wordsmith.  Click on the link below.  Who knows you may learn something along the way and some of the words may even bring a smile to your face.

James, six foot five was once a giant. Now it is considered an ideal size for a quarterback. Times sure do change. Enjoy your day!

Have not come across either of these James.  Well done.  Bear seems small even by Kodiak standards today.

Hi James,

That was one big bear. No wonder it went extinct. Ran out of food to catch. LOL

You know you are the winner for the shortest titles ever on the Active Rain postings. LOL

Have a god day in Rogers my friend.

Best, Clint McKie

Good morning James,

Did the miacis have spots like the 101 Dalmatians?

Make yourself a great day.

I looked up images in Google of the miacis and it looks like a vampire bat raccoon that just had its nails done at the salon.
