A missed opportunity to be kind---that still haunts me

By
Real Estate Agent with RETIRED 200305001

Three or four years ago I was in the check out line of a discount grocery store. The gal ahead of me was probably about 25. I;m guessing a single mom with kids, most that age here, are. I say that because we are mostly a town of older retirees.

She was trying to bu a big bag od shredded cheese on a electronic food stamp card. The total was probably less than $5 and the card did not have that much left and it would be a few days to reload it time

I watched as she had a forlorn look on her face and she put it back on the shelf and walked out.

Why didn't I pay for it? There probably where some hungry kids involved and I was raised by a single mom that didn't always have it either. I know at times others stepped up. Even tho its been a few years it still bothers me, Why didn't I pay for it? Has this happened to you, a missed opportunity for some kindness?

Regardless of who they might be from here forward you will most likely dip into your pocket for your loose change to help a person. I was close to doing that a few weeks ago when the person in front was fumbling in their purse, and then finally pulled out a $20. bill

Rob,

I'm sure we've all experienced circumstances such as this. However, hopefully we will all be blessed with more opportunities in the future to help pay it forward, whenever possible. This is what makes us human: we learn and hopefully get additional changes to apply our learned lessons.

Rob, I think we all have some things that looking back we wish we'd have done differently.  I think from those lessons come the ability to better recognize a situation and take the best action the next time it comes around.
