I just stumbled upon NAR's 2013 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers. To many of you this may be old news as it was released last November. Somehow I missed it. I thought I would pick out a couple of highlights and give you the link, in case you were interested in the report.
I came across information on the NAR article from, of all places, a "Sponsored Content" article written for, or on behalf of, ForSaleByOwner.com. Yes, you read that right! They are using the statistics from NAR to promote For Sale By Owner! I included a link to that article here as well.
That article appeared in the online Home section of the Chicago Tribune on January 23, 2013. At first glance the article appears to be the product of their own staff. It isn't. However, they use the phrase "Sponsored Content" instead of the usually seen Advertisement. I don't know if other parts of the country are seeing this as well. But I digress.
NAR's statistics are very interesting. According to their research, 92% of buyers use the internet during their home search, up slightly from 90% in 2012. Certainly not surprising, and it makes me wonder what the 8% not using the internet are actually looking at!
NAR also stated 88% of recent buyers and sellers used a real estate agent to buy or sell their home. Most startling to me is that in 2001, 69% of buyers used an agent to buy a home. That's an increase of nearly 20% in the last 12 years! I think that is significant. And encouraging.
For sellers of homes, the survey said that two-thirds contact only one agent prior to making an agent selection to assist in their sale. Lastly, only 9% sold their home without the assistance of an agent. Of that 9% selling their home on their own, 40% knew the buyer prior to the sale!
I thought this survey information was interesting and worth sharing. Check it out!
