It seems to never amaze me that contractors that install heating and cooling in homes never seem to "get it".

There are ways and codes to do installation's the right way.

This contractor/ plumber went from one nice installation to a bad installation.

Check out this view of the gas line under the range top.

Under range top gas line connection.This is a very nice clean gas line installation. But the sediment trap is not required for this appliance.

 

 

 

 

The IRC code states this.

Sediment Traps - From IRC:
IRC - International Residential Code: G2419.4 (408.4) Sediment trap. Where a sediment trap is not
incorporated as part of the gas utilization equipment, a sediment trap shall be installed downstream of
the equipment shutoff valve as close to the inlet of the equipment as practical. The sediment trap shall
be either a tee fitting with a capped nipple in the bottom opening of the run of the tee or other device
approved as an effective sediment trap. Illuminating appliances, ranges, clothes dryers and outdoor
grills need not be so equipped.  

This means the range needs no sediment trap. But there is no problem with the installation of a sediment trap.

Now on to the furnace and the installation of the unit.

Here we have a furnace that is in operation when I was there to inspect the home.

The return air line to the furnace was not connected.

Now you would think that the installer wold have taken the time to make sure this unit was installed to code.

NOPE!

I think the biggest issue with the work they do is the untrained workers without ant supervision.

This leads to incomplete work and return calls that just should not be.
