The Nashville Sounds find a New Home!
It's official!
Yesterday, January 26, 2014 Mayor Dean, Nashville Sounds 
owner Frank Ward, Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Connor and a host of other special guests broke ground on the new Sounds Stadium!
The new 10,000 seat, $38 million stadium is scheduled to be ready for the first game in April 2015. The name of the project will be the Sulphur Dell baseball stadium.
Naming rights 
of the actual stadium have not been established.
This is approximately what it will look like and where it will be on the north side of downtown Nashville.
The Sounds currently play at Greer Stadium on the south side of Nashville. Larry Schmittou brought the baseball team back to Nashville in the late 1970s. There was no stadium and money had to be raised to build one.
Greer Stadium was built in 1978 and even with the $1 million 
in upgrades made in 2007 the stadium has been in great need of more updating.
There's been no word on whether the Guitar shaped scoreboard will go to the new stadium or not.
Sulphur Dell was the original location of Nashville Baseball dating to the late 1860s. During the Civil War, Union soldiers taught the then northern game to Nashville citizens. In 1885 it became home to the Americans, Nashville's first professional baseball team.
For close to 100 years Nashville's baseball teams call Sulphur Dell home. The teams included the Americans, Seraphs, Tigers, Vols and the Negro League Elite Giants. The stadium was torn down in 1969.
In the current agreement, the Sounds will build a $60 million development of residential and commercial near the stadium. Located next to the growing area of Germantown, north Nashville should continue to see development and more homeowners moving downtown.
