One of the best decisions I made in 2013 was to join a book club. A very savvy loan officer in my area leads this particular book club. We meet once a month for lunch to discuss her latest pick. Each one of the books she recommends is geared towards business/personal growth and development. I love all of the books she picks, but there are a few must-reads.
1.The Go-Giver by Bob Burg, John
David Mann
The Chairman, a very successful businessman, guides Joe, a young professional struggling in his business through a journey. During his journey, he learns the importance and meaning of the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success.
The Go-Giver brings fresh significance to the old saying “Give and you shall receive.”
2. The Ultimate Gift by Jim Stovall
What would you do to inherit a fortune? Jason is about to jump through some challenging and life changing hoops to earn the unknown Ultimate Gift from his deceased uncle Red.
You will take the journey with Jason and learn (or be reminded) of some lessons of your own.
3. Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, M.D.
The clever story of four mice that each deal with change in their own way. Your ability to change when your business (or personal life) is no longer working can determine your success or failure.
Which mouse are you?
4. The Positive Dog by Jon Gordon
This little story, told by two dogs in a shelter, quickly spells out the enormous difference a positive attitude can make in your life.
5. The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller
That’s what it all boils down to…One Thing. That huge to-do list you have – there is really one important thing, one thing that you should be doing that will make your business (or personal life) better. This book teaches you how to find it!
That is a good book, which is opened with expectation and closed with profit.
–Amos Bronson Alcott
