Here in the sunny south we do occasionally get snow in the winter. It usually is less than an inch and is gone in a day or two. Today we had snow. It snowed about 3 inches over 6 hours today and looks like it is just about done. So am I. The problem with snow in the south is that we have very little equipment to shovel it out of the way. We also get ice.
It was about 60 degrees yesterday and is now about 19. The snow we received melted at first then turned right into ice. My trek from the office back to my home is about 3.5 miles. It took over 2 hours to get home this afternoon. I am not sure, but I think the schools let out early, but not early enough. Also, all the businesses closed and sent the employees home. In all the years I have lived in the south, I have never seen such a traffic nightmare as there was today.
Cars sat on the highways not moving. The secondary roads were iced over and I spent 30 minutes trying to get 50 feet down a hill to a turn off. Yuck. There are many many reasons to live in the sunny south and only a few not to. Today happened to be one of those few bad times. People were bailing out of cars, leaving them alongside or sometimes in the middle of a road, and walked home. Even with all the mess today, people were still excited to see the white stuff.
We will all be iced in for at least a day because tomorrow will not be above freezing. Thursday is supposed to be in the 40's and the weekend into the 60's. At least the bad does not last long. Come on Spring, I am rooting for you to get here soon!
