The REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB) has a very interesting composition of communities. On the south shore of Lake Ontario, there's Hamilton.

The official City of Hamilton is actually an amalgamation of the old City of Hamilton and many of the towns that surround it: Stoney Creek, Ancaster, Flamborough, Dundas, Waterdown & Glanbrook. RAHB's trading area goes all the way out to the south shore of Lake Erie, taking in the rural and small town areas in Haldimand, Norfolk and Dunn. The eastern boundary is in West Lincoln, home to the towns of Grimsby, Beamsville and Smithville.

But the most influential area in RAHB's jurisdiction is the city that wraps around the northwestern tip of Lake Ontario: Burlington.

ReMax recently announced that Hamilton has set a new record in luxury home sales.

The extended City of Hamilton: Ancaster, Dundas,Glanbrook, Waterdown, Flamborough & Stoney Creek combined saw 36 sales, with the highest one being in Flamborough.

So, exactly where in Hamilton are these luxury homes going crazy? Well, it's not really the City of Hamilton.

It's really the "B" in RAHB. Burlington saw 2,386 residential sales in 2013: 102 sold for over 1 million. In 2012, there were 2280 sales in Burlington with 62 homes selling over the million mark, so, without a doubt, the sales of luxury homes in Burlington are up.

So what about the "H" part of RAHB? Well Hamilton is actually up 100%.

In 2012, there were 3,780 residential sales: 1 sale over 1 million and in 2013 there were 2. OK, that's got a bit of skewing potential if I've ever seen it, but it is in fact...a fact. Hamilton wins- it's up 100%

Hamilton's amalgamated areas are up as well. In 2012, there were 25 high priced homes as compared to the 36 in 2013.

So the "Top End of the Market" trophy really goes to the City of Burlington, that wonderful "B" in RAHB.Trophy goes to Hamilton

But the true winner is the "City of Hamilton" sans it's amalgamated partners. Hamilton saw a doubling in it's luxury home sales in 2013!! Now that's the headline. "Sales of luxury homes in Hamilton over 1 million dollars is up 100%"
