Is having an Open House on Super Bowl Sunday a good idea?

This is Super Bowl weekend and our team at the Dakota Carson Realty Group have been busy promoting our Open Houses for this Sunday.  As always, we market our homes online throughout the week, we hand out fliers in the neighborhoods and we post teaser videos inviting everyone out to our Opens.  But in preparation for this week, many of our clients have been questioning if Super Bowl Sunday is indeed a great weekend to host an Open House.  Our answer is....

HECK YES IT IS!!  To begin with, unless it's a blizzard out and the city has came to a complete stand still, it's a great day to invite people to stop by and see your home.  The more people that are exposed to your home, the better chance of selling it.  Now, do we feel it would be good to host your Open House that day well into the evening, certainly not.  But the reality is, families that are in the market for a home and that are actively house hunting, will still be out and about on Super Bowl Sunday.

Here is what we tell our clients.

  • Let's heavily market your Open House as usual and have the timeframe extend to where folks will be traveling to their Super Bowl parties.
  • Let's blanket the neighborhood with plenty of directional signs, flags and balloons so that we get the attention of folks driving through the neighborhood. In many areas, traffic will be higher on Super Bowl Sunday with families traveling to and from parties.  Plus, if they are traveling through your neighborhood to get to family or friends home, then of course your home will spark some interest because who doesn't want to live near friends.
  • The mood on Super Bowl Sunday is one of excitement and great enthusiam so potential buyers will be upbeat when viewing your home during your Open House.
  • What if the family who is destined to purchase your home is NOT a sports fan?  I know, I said it.  There are actually people who will not watch the big game, or at least, it won't be the driving theme for their day.  We do not want to miss out on a potential sale!
  • Let's use the two teams playing in the big game as a fun promotional theme for your Open House.  In your marketing of the Open House, suggest potential buyers stop by and view the home, and before they leave, cast their vote on who they predict will win the game.  Get their email address and send out a follow up email blast of the winning team and a thank you for stopping by.

So as the Super Bowl approaches, the Dakota Carson Realty Group marches on in preparation for our Open Houses this weekend.  The world of Real Estate is an ever changing world and varies in different parts of the country.  So as work through the decision to host an Open House or not on Super Bowl Sunday, I wish you the best of luck in your decision making and leave you with one thing.   GO BRONCOS!

I like your attitude, I will be working this Sunday as well and the truth is, some people do not care about the Super Bowl. I am a college football fan and really could care less.  Business as usual for me.
