When you move, get involved...
Moving into a home in a new area can be both exciting and a little scary for your entire family. Excitement builds as you look forward to setting up your new home, meeting new neighbors and friends, going to a new school, starting a new job and getting involved in your new community. However, being aprehensive for the same reasons is normal.
Setting up your new home will be easy, as you unpack your personal items that make your life and home comfortable and familiar to you. Meeting new neighbors and making new friends is a little harder, but chances are your new neighbors will be curious about you and will seek you out to welcome you to the neighborhood. Starting at a new school or job should be embraced with enthusiasm. This will be a great opportunity to meet new friends and find out good things about the area you just moved to. Getting involved in your community is a great way to bring all of these together. You will find out so much about your area; businesses, activities for adults and children and the local government. Check your city website for upcoming events and attend them. Get your children involved in art classes or sports activities. Join your local Chamber of Commerce – these are just a few ways to get involved. Utilize your community as a way to get settled and set down your roots. Not only will you benefit, but your community will benefit from your involvement as well.
