Love Seeing Deserving Tenants Buying a Home

starter homeIn the transaction that we love because of the way it made us feel challenge this month, the first one to come to mind was a young couple that I helped to buy the home I was renting to them for the owner.

The owner herself was a single female that moved out of state after owning less than two years. If she had sold the home the transaction cost would have wiped out any equity leaving her with nothing so she hired me to manage the home for her.

I leased this starter home to a nice young couple who I became really impressed with. They were hard working and doing the right things, starting with modest means but making slow steady progress.  The husband was a blue collar worker and she wife was a customer service rep with AT&T. I could tell she was great at her job because she really made you feel good just talking with her and she always had a positive attitude grounded in sensible action.

Well the couple rented the home for awhile and in the fourth year the owner wanted to sell when the lease came up so I met with the couple about buying the home.  As I was sitting at their dining room table explaining the deal I could see how important this was to them. I am a property manager and even though I did sell a few of our tenants the homes they were renting I wanted to make sure everything was covered as they sought answers to their questions.

Well it worked out and they did buy the house.  The owner flew in for the closing. The owner has happy with the sale and enjoyed talking with "her" tenants and felt good seeing how much they loved buying the house they had made their home. The tenants were happy and now could continue building the great life they had started.  I was happy for everyone so it was a win win as they say. But I remember missing the relationship with the owner and the tenants after the deal was done.

Hello Robert,

This is a wonderful entry for our contest!  I know just how you feel, I enjoy and appreciate my tenants - but I always want them to own and am thrilled when they buy...but miss them too!

Some of my favorite home buyers are those with VA eligibility.  Either active duty or already out of service, they get that "special" help from this agent.
