How do you choose your agent to buy or sell your house?

Whenever I go somewhere and tell people I have just opened up a brokerage here in Carmel-by-the-Sea, they always say something like, "there is a lot of competition there."

YES, THERE ARE A LOT OF AGENTS COMPETING FOR THE BUSINESS.

But as you know, they all work under BROKERS! And there are only a handful of THEM with agents.

I AM AN INDEPENDENT BROKER LOOKING FOR AGENTS TO WORK UNDER MY NON-NATIONAL BRAND.

Because I don't have a huge overhead (major office expenses seem to be the norm here) and don't have to pay franchise fees, I can operate much more cost effectively and save my agents money.

YES, THERE IS A LOT OF COMPETITION FOR THE BUSINESS OUT THERE.

But those who want to be in real estate, have their own circle or "sphere" in which they can do their business. It has nothing to do with WHO you hang your license with, the way that I see it.

"NO, I WON'T DO BUSINESS WITH YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE WITH SO-AND-SO BROKERAGE."

That is pretty rare, I believe. Mostly, buyers and sellers want to do business with you because you have the experience, they trust you, and they already KNOW you.

CLIENTS WANT "YOU".

AND I WANT "YOU" TO WORK UNDER MY LICENSE.

Yes, I am recruiting agents right now to start as early as mid-March, 2014. That gives you, the agent, time to plan your move.

Or, if you have an inactive license or need to pass the California Real Estate test, that you give yourself enough time to get your license and become ACTIVE in my brokerage.
