30 Days of Marketing Opportunities - Day 14

This series of 30 Days of Marketing Opportunities will give you 30 projects or tasks that your Virtual Assistant can handle on your behalf, generating leads that will ultimately generate more income for you!  These are tasks that do not require a lot of high-end skill but, instead, require some time (hence the reason your Virtual Assistant should handle these tasks, not you!) and attention to detail.  Join me on the journey and I welcome your feedback!

Day 14 - Create a Neighborhood Blog

A great way to set yourself up as the neighborhood expert is to set up a neighborhood blog. What better way to show people how much you care about their community than by ensuring that everyone knows what's going on there? Your neighborhood blog can highlight neighborhood or community events, important news affecting the community, PTA information, school information, and (of course) real estate information!

Fellow longstanding Active Rain member Gail Robinson created the neighborhood blog Black Rock Online.  It is a prime example of how a great neighborhood blog can be done!

And of course, if you need help blogging, let me know!

Neighborhood blogs can attract potential local advertising revenue too. A web site that helps you meet your neighbors sounds good!

Absolutely, Randy. Local advertising revenue is an aspect of a neighborhood blog that I didn't include. You're right though about meeting your neighbors. And it will help you become an intricate part of the community as you continue to promote what's going on there!

Something I think about doing. But never seem to get it done. Going to look over Gail's and gather my thoughts.

Renae, I'm flattered that you picked my neighborhood blog.  I started it in 2007, but the trick is to post updates almost every day.  Most agents get busy with other things and forget about their neighborhood blog for weeks at a time.  It doesn't work that way.  The content has to be fresh and relevant or you lose your audience.  I've seen many community blogs in my neighborhood come and go over the past 8 years.  I deliberately have turned down advertising.  There isn't much money in it and it cheapens the look of the blog.  Instead, if I had the time, I would feature a different business each week.  Of course, I never have the time to do that.

These are marketing ideas that you can hand over to a Virtual Assistant, Sharon. This is a prime example of a project that a VA can handle from start to finish. And primarily due to the fact that most agents just don't have the time to put something like this together on their own. Let me know if you have any questions about putting together a neighborhood blog!

Gail, yours is an example of a fantastic neighborhood blog! That's why I showcased it here, to give other agents an example of how a neighborhood blog should be set up. And you're right - most agents don't keep their neighborhood blogs up-to-date. I think featuring a neighborhood business every week is a great idea! I love that!
