Where in the world is Cleburne, Texas? Great minds have been pondering this question for centuries.  Actually, that's not true.  Unless you live in Texas, or more importantly, Johnson County, Texas, you've probably never wondered about Cleburne, Texas.  For those folks considering moving to the area, however, let me acquaint you to the city of my birth.

Cleburne is the county seat of Johnson County.  It is located about 30 miles south of Fort Worth.  According to the Texas State Historical Society, Cleburne's origin and growth began as a crossroads and transportation sight for travelers going between Fort Belknap and Fort Graham.  This temporary facility, known as Camp Henderson, became a permanent settlement on March 23, 1867, when it became necessary to choose a new, centrally located county seat to replace Buchanan. The town was named in honor of Gen. Patrick R. Cleburne, under whom many of the men had fought during the Civil War.

In 1870, the railroad came to town and caused Cleburne's population to grow.  In 1898, Santa Fe Railroad built central machine shops in Cleburne for railroad repairs, and thus created an important industrial contribution to the city.  Many Cleburne families, including my own, can trace their roots back to the Santa Fe shops.

Today, Cleburne is home to approximately 29,395 people, yet the city is hoping to expand with the completion of The Chisolm Trail Parkway, a new 28 mile tollroad from Cleburne to Fort Worth.  This small town offers families a quiet, country feel, with plenty of parks, playgrounds, and Lake Pat Cleburne for people to enjoy.  Texas Health Walls Regional Hospital is located in Cleburne, as is Hill College Johnson County.  Both facilities are situated near the new Chisolm Trail Parkway and provide health care and education to the folks in town.  Homes are affordably priced, with many established neighborhoods boasting large mature trees and well kept, updated homes.  If you're looking for a laid-back lifestyle with a small town feel close to the city, then come check out Cleburne.  Where in the world is Cleburne, Texas?  Contact me on my website and I'll take you there. angie@angiefanning.net
