Whether you plan on staying in your house forever or whether you are planning on putting it on the market soon, one way to add value and add life to your house is to update your master bathroom.

It is the space that both you and your spouse use many times each day, so why not spoil yourself a little bit and update it to exactly what you want? It doesn’t have to crush your bank account either – there are ways to update your master bathroom without going overboard. Many of the suggestions can be done by yourself in a very short amount of time as well.

Here are five quick steps to update your master bathroom:

1.       Nothing is easier and less expensive – while making the most profound statement – is an updated paint job. I would suggest adding a nice soothing color – possibly a light blue, light green or off-set yellow – to the bathroom so it makes you feel relaxed each and every time you use it.

2.       If you have a little bit of extra money and are willing to invest the time, cabinets are always a plus. Many times the wear and tear of your old cabinets can begin to take form after several years, so investing in new cabinetry in your master bathroom will make for a great overhaul. Cabinetry always allows for less clutter, and the countertop space in the bathroom will look that much cleaner.

3.       Something that will be very inexpensive and something that only you and your spouse may ever notice is the addition of new shower heads or new faucets. These are available at a relatively cheap cost, but the personal touch you will feel after you install them goes a long way. Yes, it may sound like not a big deal to most, but a new shower head or a new faucet makes your entire master bathroom have a new feel – if only to you and your significant other.

4.       One way to alleviate the potential for clutter around the counters and around the entire master bathroom is to add a shelf either above the toilet or above the sinks. Space is a factor no matter what room you are in, so adding a shelf will help utilize your spacing throughout. Hand towels can be hung instead; toiletries can be stored; fresheners can be placed – so many things a simple shelf can bring to your master bathroom.

5.       Adding new drapery around the bathroom is an unsung way of updating it. Granted, sometimes drapery can be a little costly, but they will instantly add a new touch to the entire room. Make sure that if you are going to get the new drapery, you also figure out your painting plans so they look good with each other. My suggestion would be to paint the room first and then add the appropriate new drapery after the fact – to make the whole room look spectacular.
