Love Is In The Air, You Never Forget Your First...
There is a saying that "you never forget your first", and it's so true. I will never forget my first real estate listing....seemed like yesterday (although it was over nine years ago).
I was an eager to learn and succeed as a newbie real estate agent, so I tried everything from door knocking, cold calls and the like, but found that I liked doing open houses over those two so would hold as many as I could for other agents.
This one Sunday, a couple came in and said they lived across the street from an open house I was holding in Tualatin. I was trained that neighbors are a great source of not only information, but might also have family and friends that would like to move near them. We got to chatting for a while and they said that if this house was priced as it was...they would love to know what their home would sell for! Not missing a beat, I scheduled a pre-listing appointment to see their home (tried for that day but they said their house was messy) to get things going.
I gathered all my info on the house and neighborhood and worked up my comparable market analysis (CMA). One of the sellers was a big wig sales guy with a local company and I was nervous. Not only was this my first listing appointment, but as a newbie agent, I didn't have the cofidence that I have now. No where near! After my presentation, I decided that I wasn't going to push for signatures that night (as I was trained) but instead let them think on it. A week....a very LONG week went by before they called me and said I got the listing. It was a great house, easy to show and was in a really nice price point and this newbie agent was ecstatic!
I never did tell them that they were my first and I don't believe they ever had any inkling. When the buyer's agent said she wanted to present in person...again, I was nervous. Would she KNOW I was so new at this? She was so professional and I learned quite a lot from her. It was great to see how it was done..and done well. The home sold quickly at full price and the seller's were happy with me and how the sale went. The day that home sold I felt like an official real estate agent! I couldn't have asked for a better first listing! You never forget your first...
This is for the Love Is In The Air Active Rain Contest. Thanks Lisa!
