My Wife's Photos of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan

the beatlesFifty years ago today my wife Mary Ann wanted to stay home from church to watch The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. So she and her neighbor Tina devised a plan to wash their hairs late Sunday afternoon so it would be wet and she couldn't go to church. Yes, this was before hair dryers.

So the plan went off and Mary Ann and Tina and Mary Ann's dad, who stayed home to watch over them, watched The Beatles on Mary Ann's little black and white TV with rabbit ears.

Mary Ann snapped away with her little camera and took some really nice photos of The Beatles along with 78 millions others who watch them that night on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Mary Ann has kept these 30 photos for the last 50 years and brought them out today, the fifth anniversary of that show on Feb 9, 1964. The photo processing package says it cost $1.03 to process. The photos and my wife Mary Ann have both held up well.

See more of Mary Ann's Beatles photos.

Hi Robert - I remember that night. I also was glued to the TV, but didn't have the foresight to take photos. Hard to believe it was so long ago :)

Wow that is amazing.  I can't believe your wife still has those photos.  I vaguely remember this.  I think I was 6 and my big sis was making such a fuss over these guys.  Love it.

Robert I remember that night and even more so August 15, 1966 when my mom took me and 3 friends to DC Stadium to see the Beatles in their DC debut.

Very cool photos Robert.  I barely remember seeing them on the Ed Sullivan Show, of course I was only 3 at the time.  Their music still sounds good.
