WHY THEY DESERVE TO WIN: "I have been very blessed to have two of these two incredible, loyal, loving, hard working friends in my life. They encourage people to find their inner strength and goals. They believe in people even when these people begin to doubt themselves. They accept people for who they are and do not try to change them. That being said, if the other person has something that they wish to work on, Nicole & Shaun will be standing by their side and helping in any way they can. Shaun and Nicole have a lot in common besides the military. They both focus on health and fitness in their personal lives and encourage other by setting a great example. They both enjoy cooking and trying new things. Neither one is judgmental in the least. After much consideration about their individual and mutual goals, it was decided that they would look for employment in each other’s towns. At the time, Nicole lived in Bay City and Shaun lived in Traverse City. It just so happened that the day after this conversation, Nicole’s employer had an opening in Traverse City. Nicole applied, got the promotion and moved. The two now live in the Traverse City area. Chivalry is not dead. Shaun and Nicole have a board in the house that says, “I love you because…” and they will leave notes to each other. Nicole leaves notes and a chocolate around the house for Shaun to find. Shaun would get up early in the morning to scrape off Nicole’s car and shovel a path for her or drive her to work if the roads are really bad. He opens the door for a woman. He even asked Nicole’s dad for her hand in marriage before proposing and treats her with the love and respect she deserves. Shaun selected a stunning ring for Nicole. While waiting the “right” time, the ring was stolen. He went out and bought an equally beautiful engagement ring for his beloved. The police have not recovered the original ring. On November 19, 2013, Nicole went home on lunch to find a yellow rose with a note on it stating that this rose symbolizes our friendship. Additional notes let her upstairs to a red rose with a note stating that the red rose symbolizes their love. Nicole searched and found Shaun outside on one knee. SFC Shaun Beady asked SSG Nicole Budnik to marry him. She said yes." SERVICE INFORMATION: Army Reserves
