Volunteers and their pets sought

Real Estate Agent with Prudential Damiano Realty

Are you proud of your pet? Do you like showing off your pet? Does your pet bring a special joy to your life? Well, perhaps you and your pet would be interested in volunteering and bringing joy into someone else's life.

The North Jersey Developmental Center in Totowa is seeking community volunteers and their pets (dogs and cats) for it's Visiting Pet program as well as the Home Friends program. Volunteers will receive the name of a North Jersey Developmental Center client and are asked to to correspond and visit a minimum of six times a year. If you are interested in participating in this worthwhile program, please contact the Center at 973-256-1700

So why not let your pet help you bring some happiness to another person? Don't keep your pet all to yourself, share, and make a difference in someone's life.

Aloha Jim,

What a great cause. I have seen first hand how some of my elderly neighbors lite up when I bring by pooches by for a visit. One's quality of life always improves when you have a pet in the home...except of course when they defecate on the curtains.

Thanks for the Post

Those are two GREAT organizations bringing joy to people and pets.  I am sure the pets love to visit people!  Keep up the good work! An agent in my office started an "Adopt a Nursing Home" program and now I know what to contribute!  I will get other people to commit to stop with pets on a regular basis.  Thanks for the great idea.

We do nursing home visitations and both the pets and residents enjoy it.  Our "going blind" shepherd has  a special friend whose bed is low to the ground.  She lays her head on his chest and he holds her.

Jim, is this a local or national organization? Sounds like every community could use a program like this.

Nick - Thanks for the comments. It is a terrific program.

Lisa - Unfortunately my dog is too old and not well. But the center has many programs running for people to volunteer their time.

Kathleen - That must be a special event for the nursing home. Glad you and your shepherd are able to participate.

Debbie - This is a local organization. They do great work.
