Did You Watch the Beatles Last Night on TV?

Did You Watch the Beatles Last Night on TV?

I fell in love with the Beatles the first time I saw them and I remember watching the 'FAB 4' on Ed Sullivan on that wonderful Sunday night at February 9, 1964 when 73 million views saw them performing. My friends and I all knew the words to their songs and we were all mesmerized by them; the English accent, the longer shaggy hair and the unusual clothing.

I was a Beatles fan for years and remember buying their albums and cutting out their pictures in teen magazines and pasting them all over my room.

Of course, I am not alone since almost everyone in the world knew who the Beatles were and loved them and followed them in the media. Amazingly the Beatles are still popular today with the young and old. Wow, not too many can grab the young kids these days as they have a new set of groupies.

I remember when John Lennon was shot and killed and how devastated I was and so was the whole world. Last night it brought tears to my eyes as he should have been standing there with Paul and Ringo. Also we miss George as he was wonderful and it was so sad that he got sick and died. Long will we remember the two missing Beatles. I included a picture of the Yoko Ono and John's son, John Lennon Jr. and he looks so much like his father.

Last night, at the end of the TV special, that Paul said 'We are here on stage, Ringo and I, but truly all four are standing here as George and John are standing here with us'. Wow, that was such a great statement and we will always love the FAB 4.

Did you watch the Beatles Special last night and were you amazed at how great it was? Who was your favorite Beatle?

I remember going to the park after the news of John's death ... and that was all before cell phones, people just showed up in what is now called Strawberry field.

I remember watching the Beatles but had a house full of company last night and did not get to watch the show. I will most likely go UTube to watch it.

I can remember crying and being depressed when John was murdered. And I can also remember being mad for his marriage to Yoko Ono....

Hi Melanie,

It seemed like the whole world mourned John's death. Everyone was seen crying everywhere on the news. He was surely loved and what a horrible way to die. He should have been standing up there last night on the stage and of course George Harrison too.

Hi Sussie,

I thought she was sort of a weirdo at the time and they were all doing drugs but she has been a great mother and always makes sure everyone remembers John.

Kristin - I did watch the Beatles tribute last night.  I thought it was great.  Well most of it, I wasn't very impressed with Katy Perry, but that's probably another story.

Sadly I missed that so I will see if I can find it online. To imagine living that life as one of those four who came from nowhere and became mega stars and here we are 5 decades later and their life and music still impact so many its amazing

Kristin, Watched it, loved it!  I would rather that John and George's families would have been on stage with them rather than the other performers for the finale.

Hi Jim,

I didn't see her as I was popping back and forth from PBS Downton Abbey. I loved the ending and it made me tear up.

Hi David,

I remember asking my daughter when she was about 13 yrs old if she knew who the Beatles and Elvis was? She said do you think i am stupid as everyone knows who they are. I am amazed too that the Beatles are still mega stars but they deserve it and do not seem stuck up either.

Hi Tony & Darcy,

I totally thought the same thing....as it would have been really special to have them all together at the end. Good finale anyway. Hope they might do another event someday.

Watching the Ed Sullivan in those days was a typical family activity.

Some news reporters did not understand what the excitement was all about with the Beatles.

Hi Roy,

I do not think anyone over the age of 21 thought this English foursome would change the world like they did. I remember my parents even thought they were good....well maybe just my mom thought they were cute.

Yeah your past echos mine and of course their music changed the world.  SO brilliant!  I remember being introduced to them just prior to the Ed Sullivan show by my girlfriend (I Saw Her Standing There).  I was hooked from then on.  I wonder how many of todays rappers, hip hop, etc. artists will survive 50 years?

Hi Endre,

The TV stats say that more people watched the olympics than the Beatles Tribute but came in a close second. I was flipping back and forth from Downton Abby and the Beatles. I am sure the networks do this to steer viewers away from other venues.

Hi John,

The 50's music is still really popular and hot rod shows in our area and I am guessing all over the US too. The Beatles were always my favorite and of course I liked the "Rolling Stones" and "Herman's Hermits". You are so right, how many today will still be popular 50 years from now.
