Just north of Los Angeles, California, in the City of Van Nuys, you will find the 3.13 square mile neighborhood of Balboa Park/Lake Balboa. Lake Balboa is an oasis in the middle of an otherwise dry San Fernando Valley, nestled in a place where you would least expect a lake to be.
Lake Balboa is 27 acres and it is filled with water from the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant, which was designed to treat 40 million gallons of wastewater per day and serves the city with critical hydraulic relief to the major sewers downstream.
When you visit Balboa Park/Lake Balboa, you will find a myriad of things to do to fill up a beautiful afternoon. Enjoy a delicious barbecue on one of the many barbecue pits in the picnic table pavilions area.
Before or after your barbecue, you can get some exercise riding your bicycle on a bicycle path that circles the lake, or jog along the same path as you pass beautiful cascading waters surrounded by flowering bushes and majestic trees.
You will also find a children's play area, a fly fishing area, and a lake for fishing in which swimming is prohibited. For the boating aficionados, you can rent a pedal boat, or do some private boating around the lake (only boats without motors are accepted, unless the boats are for electric trolling), and a remote control boating cove.
Whatever you decide to do at Balboa Park/Lake Balboa, you are sure to have a great deal of family fun for minimal cost. Balboa Park/Lake Balboa is located at 6300 Balboa Blvd., Van Nuys, CA 91316. Hours of operation are Sunrise to Sunset. Lifeguard Hours: 9:00 am to Dusk, with fishing available during park hours.
