Huntsville Alabama Snow Slows Down The Real Estate Market

Any snow in Huntsville Alabama slows down the real estate market.  Streets close, business closes, banks, attorneys and so on.  Since I'm used to Illinois driving in lots of snow and ice I decided to come into the office and in hind sight I probably should have waited a couple of hours...it was an amusing ride.  I got stuck between two tiny hills (inclines) with a bunch of other cars and I'll blame it on the other drivers because I was able to get out okay without a scratch. I will admit though that I wasn't able to make it to Starbuck's for coffee (more drivers stuck at a stop light before another tiny hill).  Anyway, when you're on ice it really doesn't matter the incline...you ain't going anywhere!  Don't forget that all of Huntsville only has four snow plows (although I heard someone on the TV last night say only two) and six sand/salt spreaders with salt reserves that might fill my office...okay, I could be a little off on that estimate. I poke fun at Huntsville that whenever there is a threat of a snowflake falling everyone empties the grocery stores of milk and bread, hit the gas stations which is kind of funny because no one drives anywhere, but if they do and a snow flake is seen, cars automatically flip over on their backs or at least it seems so.  In Huntsville's defense, they simply don't get enough snow to warrant a big cash outlay for plows, salt trucks, manpower etc.  Snow days are rare and we look forward to them and Huntsville...I love you just the way you are!

Providence Main Street is usually very busy early in the morning, but as you can see there are no cars on the road...or at least very few!

Anyway, this photo is of the parking lot at my office with one lonely car...mine...that's dedication!

Good morning / afternoon Nick.  I recall how even the slightest snow slowed down everything when I lived in NE Alabama.  I've been reliving those days via all my Alabama pals on FB as they are home for the day and enjoy the snow.  Looks like they may have gotten more in the Scottsboro area than Huntsville???  Enjoy and stay safe.

Snow may slow our market down, but when it comes to my buyers and not being able to find houses, it will present a perfect opportunity to get a jump on new inventory while others are staying inside.  As long as I can safely drive my truck, I'm in business.

Nick, I hear there's another snow storm tomorrow and Thursday, hope this will be the last one for 2014. I would probably stay home..wouldn't know how to drive in the snow.

Good morning Nick. We have our own challenges with snow this year and an additional foot expected on Thursday. The weather has certainly hurt sales so far this year.

Not sure what's going on...we were supposed to get lots of snow and ice today, but so far mostly rain.  I had to cancel showings erring on the side of safety.

Nick,

The weather has sure been unusual and crazy to say the least! Keep safe and warm and entertained by the response of a few flakes of snow... I know I do!

It must be extra special to have a snow day in an area where they are so rare.

Maybe next time stay at home where you are safe from the other drivers who are having a tough time with the ice.

A similar thing is happening here Nick. People do not want to go out in 10 degree weather. Often I have to meet people after their work at 5:00 or 6:00 and I sure do not want to be out in slick deep snow even if I have 4 wheel drive.

I know you know how Chicago is.

Well, we finally got the snow we were promised...3"-5".  In the office now and the most frustrating thing about the ride in was the other drivers not used to this.

Noah-yes, I know how Chicago is!

Nick, as an ex Chicagoan, you're used to driving in that white stuff!!!!  Fortunately, in your Huntsville Alabama area, you know it won't last long.
