Today he announced his retirement will be after the 2014 season. My favorite Yankee and ball player of all time. A class act above the rest, Derek Jeter.
my grandpa loved the Yankees. Not sure what he would have thought of baseball today, but watching with him in the 70s is one of my fondest memories.
Hi Kerrie... Indeed, a great player, good sportsman, and a great guy. Baseball needs many more like Jeter!
Kerrie, that came as a surprise today. I am still processing the news and trying to understand the his decision.
Kerrie, I am not surprised, and I believe had he not hurt his ankle, he might have gone out with Mariano last year. He had a stellar career, even if it was in pin stripes
Yes he has been one of the rare CLASS ACTS with no skeletons in the closet.
Kerrie - Although I am a dyed-in-the-wool Braves fan, I have always liked the Yankees too. Growing up in Tampa where they did Spring Training. Years ago I worked in a pharmacy across from where they trainedand the players were always coming in for one thingor another.

Yeah I dont follow baseball too much. As a kid I was pretty let down to see the strike and ever since never been a huge fan but I do know his name and know he is a great player
It pains me to say it as a RedSox fan, but Jeter is one of the all time great players & class acts. Even though I never wished him well on the diamond, I sure do respect what he's done & how he's handled himself.
Good morning Kerry. I am not a NY Yankee fan, but definitely a Derek Jeter fan. I always loved watching him play the game the right way.
Sorry to see such a class act retire. A wonderful example of why I love sports. Derek Jeter excelled with skill and didn't much care of anyone noticed. He just did his job, every single day.
Sign of a real champion.
Jeter is definitely a class act and a great player. He will be missed on the baseball diamond after this year.
A great athlete for sure.
The Yanks will miss him that is for sure.
Fantasy Baseball just around the corner.
He is a special ball player, such a good role model for youth sports and the game of Baseball. A first ballot HAll of Famer. I hope he finishes the year strong and on top of his sport.
