5 Tips for Wow Worthy Winter Wonderland Photos Old man winter has blanketed the northeast with snow. If you are like me, it’s the perfect time to head out and take great photos. One of my favorite photos comes from what was dubbed “Snowmeggedon.” I just love the way the snow covered the city.
Here are a few tips to make your winter photos sing. 1. Winter Warmth: Before you head out make sure you are dressed the part. Getting the perfect photo will take some time so you want to make sure you are prepared. 2. Watch Where you Walk: Nothing ruins a beautiful scene like a pair of footprints unless that is what you are going for. So think about where you plan to shoot before taking that walk.
3. Winter White: The camera looks at all the white and thinks the picture is over exposed. So like the photo above, it will compensate and your snow will have a blue tint. Keep in mind all that white acts as a large reflector so you can use that to your advantage and have soft lighting. Soft lighting makes everything look better, especially people. 4. Winter Camera Fog: Have you ever had your camera fog up on you? It’s the change in temps. So keep your camera cold. Don’t put it under your coat or near your body. The best place is for it to be in a bag. When you bring it inside, leave the camera in the bag and don’t open it. This will allow the camera to warm up slowly. 5. Winter Battery Drain: The cold weather is hard on your batteries. They will loose power faster. So be prepared and bring extras. The most important thing is to have fun!
