A Referral is the Best Compliment You Can Receive from a Past Client

The best compliment a client could give me is a referral to a friend or family member, by mentioning my quality service. I cherish referrals, as they really are the best and most inexpensive leads. Referrals generally don’t come in vast quantities like internet leads, but the quality is superior. As Tammie White says, there is no higher compliment than to be referred by a past client. A couple of years ago, I received a sign call from one of my listings. It was a young couple looking to move from Nashville to Franklin. They weren't working with an agent and asked if I would show them my listing.
Of course, I agreed to meet them. While I showed them the house, it became clear this wasn't the right home for them. I asked if they had seen any other houses. As it turned out, I was not the first agent to show them a listing. I asked if they understood the benefits of working with a Buyer's Agent.
They went on to say, their original goal had been to hire one of the agents they met. Unfortunately, they were surprised at how little the listing agents seemed to know about the area. After all, you would think that an agent who has a Franklin TN home for sale would know the market pretty well. As a result, they decided to go it alone.
I went on to explain the benefits of working with a buyer's agent. I asked what they were looking for and I was able to rattle off several neighborhoods with homes meeting their criteria. I offered my services and told them I would set them up to receive new listings as they came on the market.
Two days later, I got a call that they were ready to hire a Buyer's Agent and asked if I would help. We met to discuss their wants and needs and began the home search. Unlike many couples, they wanted an older home in a well-established neighborhood. They even considered homes that would be fixer-uppers.
When I'm working with couples, Tom often goes along. We make a good team and this young couple really valued his opinion.
After several weeks and one failed offer, a house came on the market that seemed ideal for them. I arranged for us to see it right away and within a day we were under contract.
I absolutely loved working with this couple. They were always very positive and didn't get discouraged during the home search. They trusted me to advise them on offers and during the inspection process. It was a happy experience for all of us.
How did I know that it was as pleasurable for them as me? Because a few months ago my phone rang. It was Mrs. Buyer's parents. They had decided to move here and their daughter gave them my number. Mrs. Buyer's mom said, "My daughter says I have to use you because both you and Tom are absolutely wonderful."
A referral is the best compliment you can receive from a past client.
By the way, Mrs. Buyer's parents are now under contract as well.
