Each year on February 14th, National Donor Day is celebrated, which is also known by some as National Organ Donor Day.
The day was established in 1998 by the United Auto Workers partners with the support of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and many nonprofit health organizations to increase the awareness of lives that could be saved by donating organs, tissues, and blood. In the United States, there are more than 100,000 people waiting for a life-saving organ donation.
As you enjoy this Valentine’s Day with your loved ones, think about the thousands of people still on the transplant waiting list and the families who love them. Each one of us has the power to give the gift of life by becoming an organ/tissue/blood donor. Please take the time to educate yourself about the need for donors by visiting OrganDonor.gov for information.

A very special thank you to Laurie Lamoureux, a new Rainer, for writing a post entitled “Happy Organ Donor Day” and making me aware of this important date. Please stop by to welcome her.
