A lot of times veterans just don't know where to start to look and find out what they rate with the government, particularly when it comes to buying a home using VA benefits.
It's really quite easy, here's some quick and easy steps and references.
- Everything can be done online using ACE or Automated Certificate of Eligibility
- To get started in the VA guaranty process, you can only have this done by a VA approved lender (keep in mind this system does not work for everyone. Some vets don't have enough info in the data base and are required to fill out a VA form 26-1880, request a certificate of eligibility)
- Once you've filled this out, mail it along with your DD-214 to your regional VA eligibility center.....remember DO NOT send your original DD-214, a photo copy will suffice
- This process is different for service members who separated under other than honorable conditions, in this case the VA will have to investigate that it was not under dishonorable conditions.
