Yeesh, will it never end! First our record snowfall and now, we have flooding rain coming Friday. Wrote this as more snow arrived yesterday morning, then we had to go dig out our office and get the crews out to frozen pipe flood victims. Sorry for delay folks...just so tired of shoveling I could spit...think I did (icky for a chick, I know)
Meantime, our flooding rains this Friday are ominous -- that could melt our foot+ of snow all over the Tri-state area. This could cause water damages in basements or finished lower levels over the weekend. Keep an eye on your sump pumps everyone (If they fail, call my friend Debbie at Aquaduct for repair -- we're in Women of Westchester together.)
From several snow ins and record frozen pipes and ice dam water issues...to flooding...we're tired like all in the area. Cannot WAIT for spring, even if it's good to be busy.
Many of us are getting frustrated with the ice and weekly snowstorms that won't go away. Freezing temps don't help and icy sidewalks and steps beg the questions of what shoes to wear with tread, along with not so sexy layers of heavy sweaters and coats.
The combination of freezing cold, neverending snow and -- snowfall and the gofer or groundhog predicting 6 more weeks of Winter this month -- may be grounds for Snow Rage. News reports about this winter version of road rage over snow filled parking spaces is just one example. Enough already, per Forrest as he dug us out AGAIN yesterday morning!
Snow Rage...hmmm. My husband asks: "Is that what the kids are calling it now?" So what is causing this historic snowfall over 50 inches in our part of New York state and the so called "Mid-Atlantic." We have a mild climate, usually.
Climate change is really here...it's a FACT! Just because Trump does not get it, does not mean it ain't so. Look at historic draughts from Texas and Plains states to California. here are some explanations...from my reality check research:
Last year, all year we had climate cycle across Pacific that was not our usual La Nina or El Nino Pacific water temps and wind patterns. These affect moisture levels that ride the jet stream across the Pacific, West to East. We had "La NADA," or nothing. This year, we're getting nailed with snow in most of the country and Siberian temps, but it's the new normal. Saddle up and bundle up, everyone!
While we are experiencing freezing temperatures in the central and eastern U.S., the same polar vortex that clobbered us since the new year, is sending unseasonably warm temperatures and moist air to Australia. My adopted sister lives in Melbourne and they are suffering through a week-long heat weight, with temperatures nearing 130ºF! This is unheard of in her part of Down Under!
Several recent studies have linked erratic weather in the northern hemisphere, from significant thermal imaged warming since 1971, to the warming of the Arctic from climate change. Scientists in the know vs. Trump in NY are specifically concerned with sea ice melting and other "global warming" trends like the glacier that fell off of Iceland and may melt and race our ocean levels. All of this can contribute to changes in our atmospheric circulation patterns, and cause extreme weather (a.k.a Superstorm Sandy, record snowfall, Grapes of Wrath type draughts from Oklahoma to California...
We should all recycle, drive a hybrid or Eco green car and take care of our planet. As one acclaimed climate scientist I found in my research said that -- despite naysayers like The Don Trump, -- "It is intellectually dishonest to suggest that the current cold means global warming isn't happening.
With the Arctic glaciers melting into our oceans, the sea level rising and other natural indicators, we need to get out the gortex coats, be ready to shovel snow, or weather a hurricane -- and get used to hotter summers and colder winters.
Climate Change means weather extremes are likely, while global warming means more moisture in our atmosphere, so more snow, flooding rains and other natural disaster type weather in the coming years.

Bundle up...at least Spring is only 4 weeks away now!
Flooding in Westchester County may occur Friday with heavy rain and storm in Eastchester, NY 10709
