Please Don't Walk Up to My Sellers House to Schedule Showing
Recently one of my listing clients called me to say that an agent walked up
to the door to see if she could show the property. Before going any further, let me say that my sign is in the yard with my name on it and a rider is attached with the name of the co-agent on the listing with me. I am a very accessible Realtor® and so is the co-agent. However, neither the co-agent or myself received a call from the agent that walked up to the front door of my seller's home seeking an appointment.
I am of the opinion that the agent did not do her homework prior to showing her buyer a home down the street. It appears that she was in the neighborhood showing properties and just happened to see my yard sign. Had she done her homework, she would have had my listing scheduled along with the others that she was showing in the neighborhood (assuming that she wasn't just cruising the neighborhood and knocking on every sellers' door seeking to schedule directly with the seller.
I am also of the opinion that if I did the same thing (walked up to a seller's door to schedule an appointment), then the listing agent would be furious and I surely would be the topic of discussion at their next office meeting.
My phone is always by my side and usually if I can't answer the phone, I will generally respond to a message within 30 minutes (and that's generous because it's really like 15 minutes). So, in the even that an agent wants to show one of my listings:
- Please refer to your Associations guidelines on Realtor® courtesy if you are unaware of the policy.
- Please CALL ME, TEXT ME, E-MAIL and give me an opportunity to call you back. But never, ever just walk up to my clients door to schedule an appointment. I am one of the most accessible Realtors® that I know.
