Arizona observed daylight-saving time briefly during both World Wars and again in 1967, as required by the federal Uniform Time Act. After 1967, the state opted to remain on standard time year-round. Most of Arizona remains on Mountain Standard Time throughout the year.
The fountain in Fountain Hills was built in 1970 by Robert McCulloch as part of the master-plan community of Fountain Hills. When built, it was the world's tallest fountain and held that record for more than a decade.
