Hernando County's Lost Mining Town

My marketing guy has written a series of articles about the history of Hernando County, where we do business. This one in particular is pretty interesting. It is about a mining town that was once one of the centers of commerce in the county, but gradually faded into history. You can still find the town's graveyard if you are willing to hike out into the woods a bit. He even found a video of somebody making the trip out there. It's kind of eerie thinking about this long forgotten site.

The article is in a bullet-point format listing a series of facts about the town. Information about it was apparently not really easy to find. He had to go through several sources just  to come up with enough info to put together an article about it. It is sad to think that a whole town can just be lost to time like that.

He's done several of these articles about various topics in the county's history. They're a good read if you're into that sort of thing. I'll post links to more of them later on. For now, here is the history of Hernando County's lost mining town, Oriole. Check it out, it's really cool to see this history dug up and preserved. There are not too many sources for this type of obscure history in the area, so this is really cool to see.
