Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Addison & Weren't Afraid to Ask!
Addison residents are invited to participate in the 2014 Addison Citizens Academy. This is a sort of bi-annual event and many of the past and future leaders of the Town are graduates of this program.
When I participated in the program, we got to see things in Addison that many of us take for granted and/or didn't know existed. We went into the base of the original water tower, went behind the scenes and under the stage at the Watertower Theatre, got to see the inside of the jail, toured the pump station on Celestial Road, visited with the firemen at Fire Station #2, went up into the control tower at Addison Airport, and had other adventures.
To quote our new City Manager, Lea Dunn: "Cities and towns have a saying: if we are doing our job right, you will never know we are here." Many of the people who come to Addison by day don't even realize there are residential communitites in Addison and that Addision is more than restaurants, bars, shopping and businesses.
Lea also wrote: "Take a minute and think about the water you use every day. Have you ever wondered how it got there? What about the street you drove on during your morning commute? Who pays for that and how does it get built? Who decided to construct the house or apartment you're living in right now, and who inspected it to make sure that it was structurally sound? If you've ever wanted to know the answers to these questions and many more, then the Addison Citizen Academy is for you. Whether you realize it or not, the work we do at the Town of Addison directly touches nearly every facet of your life."
If you are interested in participating in the 2014 class of the Addison Citizen Academy, mark your calendar for the opening dinner reception on March 21, followed by three Saturday sessions (March 22, March 29, April 5). You will learn about what makes Addison such a special place to live, work, and play. It's a fun, interactive program.
Any Addison resident is eligible to apply. If you are interested, contact the Addison Town Hall, complete your application, and submit it by Friday, February 28.
