Water heater installations. What not to do.
There are a lot of water heaters installed in the United States each year. Some are installed correctly and some are not.
Why is it most home owners think that they are qualified to install appliances like the water heater, furnaces and appliances.
When ever the home owners take control of the installations there is in most cases "Issues" that crop up when the home is getting a home inspection.
There is a ton of information for the home owner to refer to about the installation of the water heater. The water heater even comes with an "installation manual".
These are often discarded when they open the box and remove the unit for installation. Never looking at the installation manual.
Even though this water heater is located in a water heater closet with limited access ability. There are still issues that go into the home inspection report.
Take a look at the way the electric supply was connected to the water heater. Short cuts were taken. There was no wire connector for the electrical supply line and the junction box was left open.
Plus both of the thermostat covers were removed. I am sure the installer simply removed then to adjust the thermostats. But they were never re installed.
All of these issues are safety issues.
This is why you always get a "FULL Home Inspection" by a certified inspector. For the peace of mind.
