SOLERA REAL ESTATE NEWS FEBRUARY 2014

STATE WIDE REAL ESTATE NEWS
“Southern California had its worst January for home sales in three years, as buyers wrangled with tight inventory, the feisty mortgage market and mounting home prices”, according to DataQuick, one of the most reliable real estate reporting companies in California.
Home sales across the six-county region fell 9.9 percent in January from 2013 levels, according to San Diego-based DataQuick.
Though a seasonal drop typically happens, the Southern California sales were still well below the norm. With only 14,471 sales logged, that’s 17.3 percent lower than the 17,493 average for January since 1988.
“The economy is growing, but Southland home sales have fallen on a year-over-year basis for four consecutive months now, and remain well below average,” DataQuick president John Walsh said in a Wednesday, Feb. 12, statement. “We’re still putting a lot of the blame on the low inventory. But mortgage availability, the rise in interest rates and higher home prices matter, too.”
