Pedestrian Tales From the Middle of the Road, #57

Another reader/viewer may have summed this one up best- when saying the best way to avoid deaths like these is that you "Don't wear a black hoodie and walk around in the middle of the road at night".

This death falls under the watch of Ocoee Police Chief Charles Brown and Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings.  A little law enforcement on the pedestrians' side would go along way, fellas.

A pedestrian was hit and killed by two drivers along Bluford Avenue, right near Colonial Drive in Ocoee Thursday night.

Investigators said the man was killed after trying to walk across the middle of the road and was hit by two drivers.

An investigator with the Ocoee Traffic Homicide Unit told Local 6 that a male driver in a white SUV hit the pedestrian first and then another car behind it also hit the man, causing severe head injuries.

The pedestrian was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where authorities said he died.

Police said the pedestrian was wearing all black and both drivers told police they didn't see the man coming. Both drivers are cooperating and it's not clear if they will be facing any charges.

If it was night out there should be no thought of charges.  But to many people think cars have to or will stop for them, but when they don't you are still....DEAD!

People just have no brains at all.  They apparently think they are indestructible against big metal cars until something like this happens.

Always have to be careful out there. Bike readers too, maybe even more so!

Hi, William:  Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment.  Night time, dark clothing...and a pedestrian walking in the street where they're not supposed to be.  Charges against drivers in these scenarios would be ridiculous!

Hi, Rob:  Thank you for stopping by, and for your comment.  I thought these folks were simple enough to understand- but while they are simple, what goes through their heads still makes little sense.

Folks have to know that the pedestrian is always on the losing end of the "vehicle versus pedestrian crashes" that comes across the newscasts, right?  How many times have you heard "Vehicle versus pedestrian crash on Semoran at Goldenrod- station wagon is in a heap over there in a ditch...pedestrian walked away and won't be charged"?

Ummmm...never.

Hi, Dave:  Thank you for dropping by, and for your comment.  Bikers play a part in things as well- with little enforcement of their laws, either.  We have a ton of bike lanes on major roads, but bikers often choose to ride on the sidewalk...

Guess it's safer there and less congested- since so many of the pedestrians are in the middle of the street!
