One of my very favorite clients has been calling me "Grandma" since my daughter was just a 8 year old. He was a Grandpa, but I wasn't a grandma, but I would always just laugh and keep right on talking when he would do that.
Grandpa had the cutest little grandchildren he brought along to see homes from time to time and it was always important to him that his grands have plenty of room to play and enoy at any home he considered buying.
My daughter and his grandson became really good buds when he was looking at property. I clearly remember the day he met my daughter. It was 1997 and she was just 8 years old. She had answered the phone at my office when i was with another client and taken a message. When he arrived at the office and met Abigail he then asked where her sister was. She laughed and said she didn't have a sister. He was so shocked that the little one who took his message and was very professional on the phone was just 8 years old.
Over the years we've remained friends. He taught me some great life lessons. He loves to go out to dinner and let the waitress decide what he's having for dinner. I've done a few times now too. It's often pretty fun. And once he asked the waiter when we were having dinner together if they served "chicken lips". The waiter went to find out. Really, he did.
I haven't seen Grandpa in a while. I think I'll give him a call tomorrow and see how he's doing. I miss when I used to see him more than I do now. I truly do keep most of my clients as friends. But this was a client I loved, he was quite picky when finding a home, but I get that. I was pretty picky when I bought my home too.
