I received a call the other night while working late from a veteran friend of mine. Alex, I've found the house I want, what loan should I get? Kind of a loaded question right? And I'm a Realtor®, friend and businessman, but I'm definitely not a lender. OK John lets work this one out together.
I told him to sit down with a pad and paper and we were going to do a pro's and con's based on several criteria we determined were important to him. At first he wanted an Adjustable Rate Mortgage, which is fine, but when it was all said and done we decided, together, a VA jumbo loan was the way to go. He just got approved for a $700,000 VA loan and is in the process of buying his first home.
Veterans, remember to shop around for the right loan for you, be it conventional, Adjustable Rate, Jumbo or whatever works best for you and your family. Don't be eager to take the first offer, or first recommended loan, ask questions and work with both your Realtor and lender, if they're good and have your interests, they will work together very effectively and work for you. Remember the VA is in the business of loan guarantee and not loan recommendation. At Semper Find My Home, we work with lenders who employee veterans and personally work with underwriters who specialize in VA loans. Check us out on Facebook or follow us on Twitter.
