Curse you groundhog! That was my first thought when I looked outside this morning to this…
We have had more snowfalls this winter in the DC area than I care to count. I love snow but I have grown weary of the white stuff. While I don’t think the groundhog seeing his shadow really determines if we will have a longer winter… it still gives me someone to blame! This is not my only bone to pick with the groundhog. Last year, I spent hours in my garden planting veggies for my new health kick. I even grew pumpkins for my goldens as a special treat. The plants were incredible and very healthy until the groundhog took over. I watched as the plants were gobbled up one by one. It almost looked like I took a weed whacker to the entire garden. I did research on the internet on how to get them away from my plants but the cayenne pepper didn’t do a thing. Apparently groundhogs like spicy food too! He ate it and went on his way. I sent our dogs out to scare him away, it didn’t work either. He figured them out pretty quickly. It didn’t help that half the time he would still be in the yard and they would run right by him. After a while I had not one ground hog but three in my yard. At some point I gave up the fight and just went to the farmers market. So the snow is the final straw... this means war groundhog! I am not exactly sure what I plan to do this summer, but this is war! |
