Just a pimple. Don’t worry!
I had a pimple on my upper lip. Believe me, you do not forget a pimple on your upper lip. I wondered how long it would take for it to go away. The pimple was an irritation but I had my regular appointment with our dermatologist in just four days so I decided to let him take a look and maybe pop the pimple.
The dermatologist, Dr. Samuel Norvell, did drain the pimple and gave me some samples of Aquaphor healing ointment to help with the healing. He told me to go ahead and set an appointment for one month for a biopsy if the healing was not complete.
The pimple did get worse and I returned for the biopsy. By this time, a simple pimple had become a health issue that concerned me. The biopsy showed that the pimple was actually a squamous cell carcinoma and I was referred to a plastic surgeon.
This morning, I had plastic surgery, by Dr. Michael Vincent, to remove the squamous cell carcinoma. Yes, I will have a scar as a constant reminder.
I am telling you this story as a reminder to be aware of your body and to seek medical care when you have a skin problem that does not appear to be normal. Something as small as a pimple could be a sign of cancer.
