The Longest Defaulted Property I've Seen!

In this market we call the real estate industry we all have seen things and situations we never dreamed of when we first started our real estate careers. Most of these real estate oddities come from foreclosures and short sales, also known as distressed properties.

Heck, I've seen a fence around a home burnt to the ground while the house still stood. I've seen spray paint and graffiti inside a new home that would make a freeway overpass in gangland blush. I've seen families living in squalor, which are some of my saddest memories. I've seen appliance theft, fixture theft, door and window theft, air condition and heating unit theft, and even tile and carpet theft.

But now I've come across a new real estate oddity. This oddity may not be the record, nor am I assuming that you as a reader of this blog haven't seen worse, but for me, this is a new one. For the privacy interest of the distressed homeowner(s), I will not give any other detail other than what shocked me about this situation:

We recently came across a property that has been in default for over six years! Yes, six years! For six years the homeowner(s) of this real estate have received countless letters, door posts, and other various forms of contact. Like I said, I seriously doubt this is a record; maybe you've seen worse, but I was floored.

So can you top it? What's the longest running default property you've seen?
