East West Realty represents eight different builders in The Riverfront at Harbour View, a waterfront master planned community located in the northern part of Suffolk, Virginia. Terry Peterson Residential is building new single family condominium homes in the Gables lakefront neighborhood within The Riverfront community.
Today, we're going to get to know Jeni Millikin (pictured on the left above), a REALTOR® with East West Realty at Gables at The Riverfront at Harbour View for Terry Peterson Residential. Jeni Millikin and Jasmine Feliu (pictured on the right), her partner at the site, have sold 34 new homes in 2013. They've done a phenomenal job representing the builder, the community, and providing excellent customer service to the new homeowners. Here's our Q & A with Jeni:
What do you love most about working at Gables? I enjoy the moment when I can see in someone’s eyes that they have found a home they really love, and are ready in their mind to make the next step and become a part of The Riverfront community.
How many years have you been selling real estate? I sold real estate in Florida with East West for 9 years in the original Eagle Harbor community in Orange Park. In Florida I represented 11 builders at the same time. Now, for just over two years I’ve been representing Terry Peterson Residential in the Gables condominium neighborhood, which was a first for me! I had only sold single-family homes in Florida.
What caused you to begin a career in real estate? I had never really considered it until Florida. I considered it, because after my first year of working for East West As the membership director for the golf club, I was approached by the Project Manager and Broker to come over to the realty side. They liked my customer service approach and the way I dealt with people, and thought it would be a good fit. I immediately jumped on the opportunity and feel so lucky they saw the potential in me!
Describe a typical day at Gables. The only thing that is true here is that there is no real typical day. A day can be like my Sunday was when I was hardly ever sitting at my desk, and I was showing homes to new customers and answering questions from our current homeowners. Or, on the flip side, I can be busy the entire day working on the computer with our Builder’s program, or working on MLS, or choosing what we want to use for interior finishes in our next up and coming featured home for sale.
What’s your favorite experience working at Gables. I love delivering the welcome gift to our happy new homeowners. During the building/selling process, our customers turn into friends, so it gives me a lot of joy to welcome them officially to the community and know that I was an important part of helping them find a home they love!
- Why are so many people deciding to move to Gables? Gables offers a distinctly different condominium lifestyle with the spacious home plans that we have, all featuring two car garages and an open feel, with luxurious appointments. Combine that with the appeal of VERY low maintenance and an affordable price, and Gables has become an extremely attractive neighborhood!
What’s the best part of selling new homes for Gables? I really like the affordability that people can enjoy while also receiving high end features. It’s a great combination! (Gables features home prices from the $260's to the $400,000 range)
Most memorable moment in real estate? There are so many that it’s hard to pick, so I’m going with one of our recent buyers. On the very first day I met her, by the time she left she looked me right in the eyes and told me that she thought that Gables was the right fit for her, and she would be back to bring a check for a reservation. She had recently lost her husband, and has since moved into her beautiful new home. She was wonderful throughout the whole building process and we both now consider each other friends – and she LOVES her new home!
Why is it a great time to be in real estate? I believe the experts when they say that we are at the beginning of a 5 year upswing. Couple that with historically low interest rates (even if they creep up!) and the timing could only be called ideal!
Why is it a good time to buy a brand new home? It is an ideal time to buy a brand new home, because we are at the beginning of the upswing, so building and buying prices are still low, and the interest rates are still astonishingly affordable. They are on the rise, though, so the time is NOW.
