Gasoline Surcharge, Say What?

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty World Florida

I read a post that a Realtor wrote on wanting to charge a gas surcharge to her buyer's as she was with 3 in one day and used her full tank of gasoline.  Good try but a surcharge to a buyer would be doomed from the get-go!

OK, first of all I'm really so very tired of hearing all the gripes and groans from so many about the gas prices. I hear BLAMING of everything and everyone from oil companies, ExxonMobil, OPEC, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Venezuela, Bush/Cheney derangement syndrome, speculators, we don't drill for our own, ethanol and so forth.

Well, that is simply to simple. Many of those parts are truebut the way to fix it isn't to continue down the same road that's gotten us into this mess in the first place. I'm generally all for opening up ANWAR, drilling for oil and natural gas in the Gulf of Mexico and refining our own supplies as well as pursuing a major push for more nuclear energy.

But the simple fact of the matter is we spend our tax dollars all wrong and continue to do so year after year. The solution to bringing down our fuel costs for our vehicles is a hydrogen fuel celled vehicle of mass production for all.

The way to go about that is to transform the tax code by not throwing away billions and billions year over year for tax credits, deductions and other benefits for oil companies, ethanol, solar, wind, bio-fuels, everything! Wasting year after year with not one model set up for design to provide actual results!

Instead of giving all the tax subsidies we need to create an environment of PRIZES!  We need to offer something like a $25Billion dollar tax free prize to the first person, group or company that can mass manufacture a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle which get's at least 60 miles to the gallon, can be purchased by most for about $22k and is safe and reliable.

We can carry that process over to many other wasted government bureaucracy dollars to programs like NASA.

Many of you folks are much more astute than I so you've probably heard of this type of idea from the man of great ideas Newt Gingrich.

I like him and many of his ideas. Now he would be a figure to consider for anything in the GOP. RNC chair, VP, close policy adviser?

He has a really wonderful site that I find to be bipartisan with lot's of brilliant ideas floating around from the general public like you and I. We can make a difference and to give him a quick plug you might like to check out the wonderful site www.americansolutions.com

I would love to hear from many of my esteemed colleagues in the Silent Majority and others.

For great deals on homes in sunny Southwest Florida; give me a call!

I read a similar one not long ago that said the same thing.  Airlines can get away with it but I don't think we can.

I think it's crazy. You have a buyer in your car. They are a BUYER. They are going to BUY. You (not you Owen you understand) are going to earn commission - probably thousands - and you want $50?

If you can't afford the gasoline to transport the buyers to show property, you my friends are in the wrong business. Please simply get another job, and leave the job to professionals.

That should be a great topic tomorrow Simon. What an eye opener. I haven't heard this before. Where was I?

Exactly my thoughts Nicholas.

Thanks for the input Simon. Go get 'em on your radio program.

I know, I almost fell out of my seat when I saw the surcharge post. It's absurd.

But how do you guy's feel about the Prize idea. and more specifically, the Hydrogen?

Have a great weekend.

Simon:

I think we need to re-examine the entire process of these alternative fuels.  I read a report recently that it takes far more barrels of oil to produce ethanol than the fuel which is produced.

I'm all for alternative energy, if it makes sense.  I think too many tree huggers and grant grabbers have been working much of these methods into a frenzy.  Let's all stop and do the math.

Bill - you are correct. It takes a gallon of Gas to make a gallon of ethanol!! Crazy! But what I just wrote about is entirely different and is NOT an alternative fuel. I'll be blogging about this later, but here is a quote from the inventor.

"With minor changes in the agricultural and forestry products, we could create two to two and a half billion tons of biomass a year, and you're looking at 5 billion barrels of oil per year. That would be about two-thirds of what we use now."

I like the prize idea.  We need a fuel efficient car but gas is still cheap compared to Starbuck's coffee.

I came, I saw, I ranted! It was good and the people were satisfied and they saw it to be a good rant with real heart and meaning!

You should charge that same realtor $10 for the time you wasted reading that suggestion.  That's time you could have spent prospecting.

Great post!  I like the prize idea, every major company & a lot of average amd above average people would figure out a way to make it work!  Although, the price for a gallon of bottled water is more than a gallon of gas, so then we would just be complaining about something else.

Thanks for the comment Michael.

The difference would be that we're getting 60 or more driving miles and I wouldn't object to the Prize being for 75 miles or more.

Let's push for the Hydrogen powered vehicles. Check out the site www.americansolutions.com

It's a great platform and idea driven site with lot's of citizen driven ideas on all topics.

Owen:

I don't know.  I would probably screen the buyers better before driving them all over God's creation.  I can sympathize a little with the realtor's frustrations.  There are many tire kickers out there right now.

Maybe the realtor needs to "Go For the No."  Whoops I am giving away a future blog idea.

I understand the tire kicker problem as well but I agree with you that they need to screen

the buyer's much better. I don't have the issue very often. I spend my time with qualified and motivated purchasors.

You can use that great line "go for no" for a blog post but I already have done that and it's worked out for the best the couple of times I've used it.

She's got to convert 1 of those 3 buyers if she's a good Realtor.

Thanks for the comments, Bill...
