Last Night I Dreamt Of Some Bagels

Last Night I Dreamt of Some Bagels

I admit it.

When it comes to song lyrics, I can arrive at some interesting interpretations.

So a few weeks ago when I heard the Madonna song

La Isla Bonita

I was once again reminded of one of my many mistaken song lyrics

The song begins to everyone(but me)

Last night I dreamt of San Pedro

I heard and believe me, I still think

Last Night I Dreamt of Some Bagels

Yes, yes I makes no sense….

Even now, nearly three decades after I first heard the song

So what does Madonna and La Isla Bonita have to do with real estate?

For’s a good reminder -- perhaps now more embarrassing

that when we….errr I, speak real estate…

I need to remember that while I speak and conduct real estate everyday, many others around me….do not.

Slow down

Make sure those around me understand the terms of real estate when I speak.

Those are not bagels….

P.S. you should try the 'fauxnuts' from Datz 'Dough' in Tampa - yummy, now I've gone and thought about bread again.

Funny!  I can't tell you how many songs that I didn't know the words to or thought was something different.   I do want to pop up to NYC for a bagel....hmmmm...I wonder why?

So true.  Many times our clients nod and smile and pretend that they know what we are talking about.  The words we choose need to be words that they understand.  They are not interested in knowing our ability to use impressive words that make no sense to them, it might as well be in another language or in gibberish.  Thank you for the reminder!

Mike, each profession has its own language - however, we must speak the language of common man! After all...everyone is not a bagel!

Francine -- FSBO(For Sale By Owner) still reminds me of a old fashioned soft NeHI or something, I guess.

Roger - I bet there are more than a million examples of fractured lyrics -- I know there is at least one book on the subject.

Donna - there is no discriminating when it comes to my mistaken words -- you name the decade, I'm sure I've messed up at least a few songs.

Tammie - you definitely struck a chord -- people are often afraid to ask -- that's why I try to ask open ended questions or ask them to explain what I said(not in such a direct - teacher way)

Elizabeth - you may have opened a new sub-conversation about psychedelics.

Pamela - very true.  We need to use care with our words.

Pat - nothing like a good caper....just sayin'.

Vanessa - whether it's bagels or pizza, there's a lot of controversy over what makes one better than another -- water definitely seems to be a factor.   I remember when a NYC Bagel Shop opened in Southern California they touted they had New York water brought in.

Lynda - I like the song as well.  You never know when/how Madge will reinvent herself.

Tamra - you're very welcome.  Thanks for stopping by.

Silvia - don't recall the circumstances of the time/place when I first heard the song -- maybe MTV when they used to play music.

Suzanne - thanks.

Debb - pie - did someone say pie?   Pie is definitely one of my favorite foods.

Jane - go ahead - get those beads!

Jack - good deal.

Patricia - I hope it was a good one.  Thanks.

Michael - yummy -- send them over.

Susan - love your comment -- most of all because you used the name "Datz Dough" -- there's nothing I like better than a clever name especially one that is alliterative.

Jean Marie and Wayne - be careful what you promise....

Carla - I'm sorry, so sorry.

Yvette -hmm, yeah I wonder....

Karen - very true -- it's important to explain and often more than once to make sure they understand.

Praful - so true on both accounts.

Debbie - we might as well be speaking Jabberwocky if we don't give our clients a thorough, understandable meaning of the words and terms we use.  Of course, context counts too.

Jon - I hear ya, I hear ya.

Brandon - I'm glad the title brought you and you stayed to comment.  I appreciate it.

Sharon - well, what can I say -- I'm original.  I'm unique.  Thanks!

Connie - thanks but I didn't win...I readily and easily accept congratulations if if there is no reason.

Endre - I think you are thinking of lobsters....all the time.

Hi Michael,

I too had to read this due to the title. I love bagels too...especially the pumpkin ones in the fall and winter time. I am always sad when they are gone.
