this weekend in Connecticut

As the Winter seems to be dragging on and on and on... Some Connecticut residents (if not all) are beginning to get a bit stir-crazy and with a slight warm up in the weather are thinking what to do this weekend in Connecticut. Of course there's the norm ... dinner and a movie, plays, drinks out with friends ... but if you are looking for some out of the ordinary recreational activities this weekend in Connecticut I have a few ideas for you!

If you are in the mood for some sweet fun this weekend in Connecticut why not celebrate the coming of Spring with a little Maple Sugar! In Connecticut this time of year is known for maple sugar weekend and there are many opportunities this weekend to join in the fun. Take a scenic drive to Sweet Wind Farm in East Hartland to join them in their 8th Annual Maple Festival this Saturday March 8th. Admission is free to see maple sugaring demonstration, tree-tapping demonstration, live music, and more! Other similar Maple Syrup celebrations will be held at Sullivan Farm in New Milford (with a fire-pit for roasting marshmallows),the Plymouth Maple Festival, the Hebron Maple Festival (with dog sledding and silent auction), and Maple Sugar Madness in Glastonbury.

Bring out the kid in you this weekend in Connecticut at Launch Trampoline Park in Hartford. This 10,000 square foot trampoline park opened in December of 2013 and offers  an  open-bounce court, a foam pit, two basketball hoops, a separate bouncing court for small children, a large game arcade, and two dodge-ball courts. This park has fun for all ages so grab your children or grandchildren or a good friend and pop on into Launch to check it out!

Looking more adult geared activities this weekend in Connecticut? Believe it or not Connecticut has several up and coming breweries and now much like the CT Wine Trail there is a CT Beer Trail! Since 2010 about 15 breweries have opened in our state and some are doing quite well! Back East Brewing in Bloomfield opened in 2012 and offers tastings Wednesday through Friday, 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. On Saturday the offer free tours at 1, 2, and 3pm but tours are limited to 30 people and do fill up so be sure get there early! Relic Brewing, located in Plainville, also opened in 2012 and offer tastings on Fridays from 4-7 pm and Saturdays 12-3 pm. The popular New England Brewing Co. in Woodbrdige is expanding with a new location 4 times the size and is open Monday through Friday, noon to 6 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Shebeen Brewing, in Woclott, has some interesting brews to include cannoli beer, pineapple wheat, Concord grape saison, Kona bacon stout and a cucumber wasabi Japanese rice beer. These are just a few local breweries to get you started but check out the CT Beer Trail website for a full list and the latest news and information.
