Aging in place allows people to live in the home of their choice for as long as possible. There are outside services available to maintain and even improve the quality of life.
Too many times I have witnessed a rapid decline when seniors are forced to make a move from a comfortable home they love.
Aging in place is the option and should be considered first.
It is about doing the right thing. And sometimes advising sellers NOT to sell may be the best option.
There are ways to make most homes convenient and accessible by including stair glides, grab bars, flooring modifications, easy open door handles, reduction of fall risks with hand rails other simple safety features.
Bathrooms and kitchens can be made accessible. Faucets can have easy turn handles, showers can be barrier free and cabinets and microwaves can be lowered. The walk in tub that I had in one of my recent listings make it ideal for someone to age in place.
Aging in place is not just for OLD people. It is for all people who want to have dignity and quality of life without being a burden. It does not mean doing it all yourself. It does require planning and even outside services.
