Only Man has clocks!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Richard Weisser Realty

Only Man has Clocks by Richard WeisserThe arbitrary wedge is sliced,
Dogmatic, deigned to be precise,
To set our pace, control our fate
And determine if we’re prompt or late.
No beast takes notice, no fowl reflects
No crawly insect genuflects,
In homage to those ticks or tocks,
Because you see, only man has clocks!
                    (R Weisser 2014)

Ok we have “sprung forward” and now we must face several days or weeks of internal adjustments.

It’s amazing to me that the measure of time can be so arbitrary and realigned at whim. But we live in a society that is controlled in measures that are set without our input or consent.

If technology has done anything at all, it has made the dependence on a precise increment of time even more dogmatic. Our lives are now narrowed down to fractions of a sentence.

But in fact, our submission to the rule of the clock is voluntary.

Probably because we couldn’t survive without it!

Yes, this is true.  We are also the only species that pays to have a place to sleep and for our food, etc. - Debbie

Richard - I wish someone could explain all of this to our dogs. They're going to want to know why dinner is an hour later.

You have to have some measure of time to get anything accomplished.  Otherwise attending church, movies, your job, etc would become a nightmare because of people coming at their leisure.

Someone asked me a good question the other day, Richard.  They wanted to know why the change always takes place in the deep middle of the night instead of at 4pm on Friday.

What I love about my 25 years in real estate is setting my own success clock and maybe it is an illusion to say I have some control but I will keep the illusion, it makes me feel good.

Hi Richard... love the poem and great points... So we've sprung forward today and I'm feeling an hour behind. Why do I feel I need to catch up? :O) Guess it's just something we can't let go of thanks to the industrial age.

Richard, Our cats and dogs will be wondering why we're late(?) or early(?) with their food until they also adjust to the new clock system :)

Now I need to wait for an hour before I can get my outside work done because it is now almost dark.  Great for working late if I need or want

The thing about changing the time...I still awaken at the same biological time. But that stupid clock doesn't agree!
